Winter Wonderland: Dogs That Love The Snow

Winter Wonderland: Dogs That Love The Snow

While some pups love the beach and dried leaves, some love the Winter Wonderland. They not only tolerate the cold, but they also thrive in it. Their body and coat are built to last the chilly months.

Here are some dogs that love the snow:

Siberian Husky

Probably one of the most iconic winter dogs, huskies are at the top of our list. Originating from Siberia, where the temperature goes below zero, these dogs developed thick double coats that protect them from the freezing temperature.

Known for their endurance, loyalty, and playful attitude, huskies are the best companions for snowy adventures. Oh, they literally pull sleds for your children!

Alaskan Malamute

The Alaskan Malamute is another dog built and bred to withstand harsh winter conditions. They were companions of the indigenous tribe Mahlemuts, hunting seals, scaring polar bears, and pulling sleds across the rocky terrains of Siberia.

These giants have thick and water-resistant coats that keep them warm during winter. Though they look like huskies, Alaskan Malamutes are big, athletic, and agile.

Bernese Mountain Dog

Known for their beauty, the Bernese Mountain Dogs are equipped with thick fur and muscular bodies that give them an edge to low temperatures. They are also known to help Swiss farmers, showing enthusiasm for navigating the snowy terrains and having a natural affinity for cooler climates.

Though big, they are gentle with kids and would love to join humans for winter hikes and snow-filled happy times.

Samoyed

Samoyed are winter dog breeds that feature white and fluffy coats. They are bred for sledding and herding. They can also be family dogs because they love attention and cuddle times.

They are also tireless but gentle with children. So, they are best for families that love snow adventures.

Tibetan Mastiff

Brusque and bulky, the Tibetan Mastiff is a winter dog that can easily respond to cold climates. They are found in various colours, including black, brown, red, bluish grey and combinations.

They originated in the Tibetan mountains; these gentle giants are good companion dogs. However, they are withdrawn and need consistent socialization.

Keeshond

The Keeshonden are fluffy and cuddly winter dogs from the Netherlands. Their thick coats are designed to keep them warm in winter and in the frigid waters. That's why they accompanied humans travelling through the canals of the country.

Keeshonden are patient with children and other animals. So, they are best for families with members who love to make snowman.

Chow Chow

Another popular house breed, Chow Chow, can withstand cold–thanks to their double coats and brawny bodies. They are one of the oldest dog breeds and have been documented to accompany humans as early as the Han Dynasty.

Though intelligent and loyal to their humans, Chow Chow is withdrawn and not known to be a cuddle dog.

The dogs mentioned above not only tolerate winter but enjoyed it. These furry companions bring warmth and joy to the cold months, making them ideal partners for snowy escapades and frosty fun. So, if you're looking for a canine companion to join you in embracing the winter wonderlands, consider welcoming one of these winter-loving breeds into your home.
